INTERLIBER - A FAIR FOR ALL GENERATIONS
The national literary event INTERLIBER, 45th International Book Fair will be held in its traditional term from 7 - 12 November 2023 to the great contentment of all lovers of the written word.

Interliber is the largest literary event in Croatia, a venue where books are celebrated, a place where all generations of readers meet and we regularly witness the creation of love for books.

At Zagreb Fair, publishers will present an extremely rich programme of new editions from a wide variety of fields, proving that Croatian publishing knows and finds its way to book fans.

Interliber will be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia and the Mayor of the City of Zagreb, Mr. Tomislav Tomašević. The media partner is Croatian Radiotelevision - HRT.

Pavilions 5, 6, 7 and 7a will host more than 300 exhibitors from 13 countries (Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, France, Croatia, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, USA, Slovenia, Serbia, Sweden, UK) covering over 13,000 m2 of exhibition space.

VIKAS SWARUP, THE AUTHOR OF THE "Q&A: SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE"- MAIN GUEST OF INTERLIBER

As a special event at this year's Book Fair we are glad to announce the guest appearance of the world-famous writer and Indian diplomat, Vikas Swarup, whose novel "Q&A" (Questions and Answers) was the inspiration for the famous film "Slumdog Millionaire " that has won multiple awards, including the Oscars. His visit was organized in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of India to the Republic of Croatia.

"Q&A" is his debut novel, published in 2005 in 43 languages. The film version of "Q&A" titled "Slumdog Millionaire", directed by Danny Boyle, won more than 70 awards including four Golden Globes, 7 BAFTAs and incredible 8 Oscars. Beside "Q&A" he also wrote the novels "The Accidental Apprentice" and "Six Suspects".

On the first day of Interliber, 7 November, at 18:00 h in the pavilion 7 of Zagreb Fair, there will be a meeting with the author called "The Talk: Vikas Swarup" where, among other things, he will be happy to answer questions from the audience. The moderator is Jasen Boko, author, dramaturge, travel writer and journalist. The meeting will be followed by signing of the book "Q&A" published in Croatia by the Znanje publishing house.

Vikas Swarup was born in India, where he studied History, Psychology and Philosophy. After graduation he joined the Indian Foreign Service. In his diplomatic career, he was posted to Turkey, the United States, Ethiopia, the United Kingdom and South Africa. He served as Consul General of India in Japan, as Official Spokesperson of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi and was appointed High Commissioner of India to Canada.

His visit to Interliber will be a unique opportunity for all book lovers to meet the author in person, whose touching and inspiring story has won the hearts of readers all over the world.

PROGRAMME OF EVENTS

We wish to announce more than 200 hours of professional programme to take place at two stages in the pavilions 6 and 7, and at the open-air space in front of the pavilion 5 there will be concerts and appearances of young DJs.

As part of the programme for children and young people titled "One Hundred Percent Literate", we organize several very educational and interesting workshops: Financial Literacy - Toni Milun, Little Workshop of Glagolitic Script - prof. Darko Žubrinić, president of the Society of Friends of Glagolitic Script, Media Literacy Workshop for Children and Young People - UNICEF, Graffiti Street Art workshops organized by Rockmark.hr.

There will also be the HighFive quiz for upper elementary and secondary school students, the National Team Quiz Championship. The 150th birth anniversary of Marija Jurić Zagorka will be celebrated through workshops "Zagorka with Love" and costume walks with Zagorka and Zagorka's characters in order to introduce students to scenes from Zagorka's life and her characters.

Visitors come to Interliber not only in search of a new book, but also for high-quality and interesting contents, from the presentation of new books by local and foreign authors, meetings and discussions with writers, reading rooms and workshops, awarding of literary prizes to professional meetings of publishers, booksellers and librarians and panel discussions. We highlight the lecture "The Great Reset" with the famous Croatian scientist Korado Korlević, on Thursday, 9 November from 18:00-18:45 h.

The Publishers and Booksellers Association at the Croatian Chamber of Economy has prepared a PREMIUM PROGRAMME this year again (every day from Tuesday to Sunday), and one of the topics is "Ukraine in focus".

The First Film Marathon at Interliber will take place in the hall at the gallery of the pavilion 5. On Friday, 10 November, films for all generations will be shown throughout the day: The Amazing Maurice, Come Away, 10 Days without Mom, The Wolf and the Lion, Rumba and Official Competition.

THE SHEEP IN THE BOX is a literary award for the best Croatian picture book, and it will be presented on Saturday, 11 November on the stage in pavilion 6.

At the Interliber fair, the Ministry of Culture and Media will promote the "Born to Read" national programme to encourage children to read from an early age. The main goal of the programme is to instruct every parent/guardian at regular physical examinations of children on the importance of reading aloud for the development of the child's reading habits, which significantly affects the child's overall development.

OCEAN MORE - will organize book signing at the stand by: Glorija Lujanović, Kristian Novak, Tea Tulić, Damir Karakaš, who will also make exclusive drawings.

MOZAIK KNJIGA - will present the novelties: J.K.Rowling - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Rules of Civility - Amor Towles, Julia Quinn - Queen Charlotte, R. F. ALFA - will hold various educational workshops at its stand, textbook editors Marija Mapilele, Đurđa Trupinić, Josipa Oreč Živković and Tihana Bilešić will answer to questions from the audience and will present the books My Left Foot (Iva Babić, Alis Marić, Nikolina Bakula), My Zagreb and Me (Dijana Zorić), Stuttering: Myths and Prejudices (Dubravka Prpić, Anita Benčec Nikolovski).

The official opening of the fair will take place on Tuesday, 7 November 2023 at 11.00 h at the gallery of the pavilion 5.

Admission to the fair is free.

Parking for all visitors of Interliber around Zagreb Fair venue is free.

PRESS CENTER

Located in the pavilion 7 the press center will be available to journalists every day during the run of the fair.
